Breaking Borders at the San José Poetry Festival 2016
We have created a program that will reflect the considerable ethnic and cultural diversity, talent and innovation of our Greater San José Area. It is a program that will remind writers and readers why they are drawn to poetry, and also encourage and teach relative newcomers to the genre. As the festival theme Breaking Borders implies, we hope to expand the more traditional concepts of poetry and spoken word to include slam or rap, surreal poetry, and a slew of innovative themes, including an assemblage of multilingual world poetry.
Here is a list of events you’ll be privy to when you get your tickets to our San José Poetry Festival 2016 held on a Sunday, September 18, from 9:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.at History San José, 635 Phelan Ave, San José, CA 95112. Mark your calendar and spread the word among your friends and family. The program consists of 2 workshops and 12 presentation-cum-readings, breaking borders of the norm in poetry. We’ve planned one workshop at the start of the program, and the second workshop in the afternoon slot, so folks can have a preference of attending a workshop in the early part of the day, or preferably in the afternoon.
The highlight of the festival will be our inclusion of a Keynote Speaker—an awesome poet—the Poet Laureate of San Francisco, whose reading and reciting will flabbergast the entire gathering. He will read at the porch of the Markham House at History San José. There will be an hour lunch break, following which, two notable Santa Clara County Poet Laureates will follow suit and continue to inspire the entire gathering with their incredible reading.
It is our hope that all of you will plan to spend your entire Sunday at our poetry festival to experience the superior talent and incredible poetry we are presenting, and immerse yourselves as much as possible in the wonderful program we have planned for you. There will also be a section for a Small Press Fair, with tables piled high with books of great poetry by some of our talented poets and publishers in South Bay.
